Advocacy

I find it quite appropriate that advocacy is the first word of this series, as I think it is one of the most important and first steps that a music therapist should take.  Through advocacy, our profession gains recognition, understanding, and ultimately, allows clients access to music therapy services.

Advocacy can take several forms: it can be online or in person, formal or informal, brief or detailed.  I encourage all music therapists, interns, students, clients, or client families to participate in advocating for music therapy one time this week, whether it be at the park, in the elevator, with your co-workers, in a presentation, etc.!

I’d love to hear how it goes, so if you’d like to share, please do so in the comments below!
