Guitar

The guitar.  One of THE most important instruments for the music therapist because of its many abilities: portability, excite-ability, easy-to-clean-ability, and song adaptability.

Here is a list of some of my go-to websites for all things guitar-related:

Music Therapy Source: Tips and tricks from one of my favorite music therapists, Matt Logan.  As an accomplished guitarist, he provides valuable insight into all-things guitar related!

Musician’s Friend: I order ALL of my strings through this site…free shipping and reliable!

Custom-made picks:  A few years ago, I received a beautiful guitar pick from my dear friend Ginny Driscoll that had my initials hand-carved on the front of it.  It was an incredible, thoughtful, AND useful gift!  While I’m not sure of the exact seller, I do know she went through Etsy to have it made.  I found a few HERE, HERE, and HERE, if you’re interested in purchasing one for yourself or for a friend (or both!).

Time for Music: Wade Richards, a music therapist in New York, has a guitar instruction book available on his site that is designed specifically for music therapists and music educators interested in utilizing modified tuning/adapted guitar in their sessions and lessons.

Brush up on your guitar skills: An incredible amount of guitar tutorials exist on the web (I recommend the videos done by John Rankin, a professor at Loyola)…check one out and learn a new technique this summer (heck, try to learn one once a month!).

What are your go-to guitar sites? Accessories?  Learning materials?
