U is for
Under the Sea
This classic song is from one of the very first Disney movies I ever saw (it was favorite because the princess had red hair…just like me) :).
Speaking of firsts, this was also the first song I used for my very first music therapy practicum in graduate school, back in the fall of 2006. I used the music as a movement song and accompaniment to a parachute activity with several adorable children at the University of Iowa day care.
What we did:
Throughout the song, students take turns placing fish in the middle of parachute (an extra challenge: not letting the fish “escape” the outside edges of the parachute!). On the back of these fish you can write/tape/mark letters, numbers, colors, or other academic concepts on which the children on working. It’s a great way to incorporate their goals AND have a fun time doing it…the rhythm of the music is just so catchy and fun!
