Facebook

Ah, Facebook.  What a love-hate relationship I have with you.

There are so many pros and cons of Facebook, but for this post (and for the sake of brevity), I’ll just focus on the positive and how it relates to music therapy.

1. Facebook Pages:  While not absolutely necessary, I highly recommend having a Facebook page for your music therapy private practice.  My music therapy page permits me to send out quick updates, post photos (with client/parent permission, of course), and allow Music Therapy Services of Austin to connect with other therapists (not just music therapists, but speech-language pathologists, occupational therapists, etc.).

2. Connections:  Being contractual music therapist, I rarely encounter other music therapists in-person.  Facebook provides me with the unique opportunity to stay connected with colleagues, foster friendships with fellow MTs, and meet other music therapists across the country (and the world!).

3. Facebook Groups: Being a part of Facebook group forums has answered so many of my everyday questions about business, therapy, session ideas, and other topics related to the MT world.  I thoroughly enjoy being a part of the Music Therapists Unite and Music Therapy Business Owners Facebook groups (if you are a music therapist and are interested in joining either of these private, invite-only groups, contact me via email or Facebook).
