J is for
“Jump in the Line”, Harry Belafonte
The first time I heard this song, I was a little girl watching this classic:
(This movie also uses another Belafonte tune in one of the best scenes EVER).
This song has amazing rhythm, fun instruments, and is perfect for gross motor dancing (I DARE you to not move your body while listening), interventions involving rhythm instruments and playing to the beat, and mimicking, following directions, etc., etc.
I encourage you to check out fellow Texan music therapist, Ashley Lundquist, and see how she transforms the song into one that involves the shaker eggs! I’ve definitely used this version in my sessions – thanks, Ashley! Find her video and lyrics HERE.
